"The Knitting Circle," Providence-based author Ann Hood's semi-autobiographical novel about coming to terms with her young daughter's death, will soon be an HBO film.

Katherine Heigl, the former "Grey's Anatomy" star who left television for the film world, will star and produce the movie through her own production company, Abishag, in partnership with her mother, Nancy Heigl.

Craig Wright, creator of ABC's "Dirty Sexy Money" and a Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright, will provide the script. Wright began his TV writing career on "Six Feet Under."
