A North Kingstown woman is grateful for the kindness of strangers today, after members of the cast of "Wicked" came to her home to serenade her sister, who is suffering from stage IV lung cancer and was unable to attend the show when it was at the Providence Performing Arts Center.

Ellen Waxman and her sister Shelly had been given tickets to "Wicked" by their parents. But Shelly felt too ill to attend and gave her ticket to a friend of Ellen's. During the last song of the show, "For Good," Ellen said she became sentimental and realized how much Shelly had changed her life "for the good," as the song says. She wished they could share that moment together.

So she contacted box office manager Stephanie Santos, who fowarded her wish to have cast members come to her home. The request went to tour manager Steve Quinn, who sent two singers, Meredith Kaye Clark and Stephanie Brown, to Waxman's home Thursday to sing "For Good," for Shelly. The two sisters held hands during the number.

"I'm so grateful," said Ellen. "I just want it to be known that there are good people out there." Here is a link to a Shelly's blog post regarding the visit, including a video:
